Questions Slide 1

How does the industry promote film to audiences using:
  • Print media?
The media do this by writing reviews and by also telling readers about films in magazines and newspapers. the reviews let readers know if
the film is good and it tells the readers all about the film.
  • Broadcast media (TV/Radio/DVD)?
The media promote film through broadcast media by advertising and showing trailers of new films on television, they also do it through   radio by presenters letting listeners know and giving listeneres all the new intel.
  • E-Media?
The media also promotes film by using E media they do this having the trailers on youtube and they also have an offical site for fans and for people to see what the film is about. They also have pages on social sites such as twitter and facebook.

Now look at each platform individually:
  • What are they key issues and changes taking place in each platform?
    • Print Media is not instant and free like E-Media
The issue with this is many people cant afford or do not want to pay for reviews and quotes in a magazine when they know they can get it of the internet. the changes are nt many people new how to use the internet when it was invented and now the internet has so much power it is taking over print media.
    • TV is becoming less dictated by scheduling (Sky+), more and more specialist channels, competition from the likes of You Tube
The key issue with this is that now whenever people are busy with work or family they either put their favourite show on record or they watch it on youtube later. this is affecting the viweings of television which is making youtube more popular. this is hard to change now as many people enjoy watching their favourite show whenever they want.

How is each platform responding and adapting to these issues and changes?
  • Focus on how they are adapting to:
    • CHANGING TECHNOLOGIES
All media platforms have to ajust to what is happening and how other platforms are becoming stronger as print media are now online as well so reviews are available online and so are quotes. as technology changes the platforms have to ajust to them to keep up.
    • CHANGING AUDIENCE BEHAVIOURS (all audiences, not just the young!)
Audiences have changed over the years as a long time ago television was the main media platform but it has all changed now. Family genre is the main genre in todays world as everyone in the family can go and watch it and it also takes adults back when they were children for instance super 8 is a family film but the older generation feel as if they go back in time.

Super 8 review

1hr 52min‎‎ - Rated 12A‎‎ - Scifi/Fantasy‎‎ - English‎
Director: J.J. Abrams - Cast: Elle Fanning, Kyle Chandler, Ron Eldard, Noah Emmerich, Gabriel Basso, Joel Courtney, Ryan Lee, Zach Mills, Amanda Michalka

A bunch of school children get together to make a zombie movie. To add authenticity to their amateur project, they decide to shoot on real locations...one being a late night shoot at a train station. The kids are happy to see a freight train approaches the station adding to the film's 'production value'. However a car gets onto the tracks and starts driving towards the train from the other end. The two crash and create a massive explosion.

Soon after the massive accident, the small town starts facing strange attacks. The kids are the only eye witnesses to see the crash and therefore decide to go find out what happened.

Super 8 is an exciting watch mainly for its superb build up. The director infuses subtle humour even in spooky scenes and the combination just adds to the fun.

The special effects are impressive although few scenes do look unreal. The line of events and performances make you want to keep watching but the ending is very disappointing as it does not build up it happens staright away.

The film revolves around the child actors and they are very talented. The film gets spookier as it progresses. The tension that keeps building makes you scream and therefore it makes you jump. It is a must see film.
